Asking about vitamins, especially B12

+0
−0

The question I have in mind would go to the biology community, but the potential participants have not found a way to come together, yet.

According to Wikipedia, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vitamin_B12 "While animals require B12, plants do not" and "Vitamin B12 is the most chemically complex of all vitamins,[6][2][7] and is synthesized exclusively by certain archaea and bacteria."

If that can be trusted, all animals need B12, but it can only be synthesized by some microbes, and especially not by fungi we use to brew beer or leaven bread.

Would it be OK to post it here instead, and if so, what tags should I use?

There would be other questions like this, for example about essential amino-acids or the availability of vitamin A that is insoluble in water but abundantly present in low-fat vegetables like carrots or sweet potatoes.
